i am sorry to say tat although i got tis offer , but i still confuse wat i study about.... any senior can help, pls.... since i dont know the actually wat i will study , so i dont know how to answer my mum, dad, uncle and auntie...already want to become the "big student", still a lot of funny...qq :P

We are from HKUST, hong kong. OK, bioinformatics is to use computational algorithms to study biological problems. For example, if biologists get some DNA data from experiments, then we computer scientists can analyze whether there is a strong correlation between the DNA and a disease, such as cancer.
then i sms my f6 teacher, she reply:

hi there, don't be so desperate with this bot so well known course. It is indeed a non popular course among malaysian but in overseas, it is rather a hot course!
well,he potential is there and the field is not very mature. If you are happy with computerizing a bio lab, then it is OK. However, to do so you have to be happy and good in working with computers.
Application of computer technology to bio field has potential, but being a evolving field, you need the real skill in computer science to solve problem in biology or medicine. Usually, these places look for people who are really good in computer science.
1 simple example: biochemist do some experiment n come out wit alot of data (eg: dna sequences) ..their experiment may juz stop when they get the dna sequence. but wat's the use of those bunch of data? tis is when bioinfo is needed. bioinformatician wil use their computer/IT n bio skills to provide solutions on how those data can b utilized. however, bioinfo stil very new in m'sia..kinda hard to find a bioinfo job since there r very few bioinfo companies in m'sia. but if u r reali good at it, u wil hav a wide prospect..coz u hav the skills of both IT n Bio. to me, i feel bioinfo is much more interesting than biochem coz i personally don like to stay at lab 10 hours a day.

so far only found u lo ;D
every course must has its use then only will be offered in university ma...this course might be not very popular in malaysia yet it's very common in other developed countries.
you can go to the first page of this post to read what our seniors comment about this course.

it's really quite unsafe to bring laptop during orientation,because most of the time nobody will be in the room,and anything can happen.
you can refer to buku panduan,what u need are all listed there.
i think 9th college's rooms are with fan. u can try to confirm with seniors from 9th.

u r not advise to bring fan to uni.. coz tat consider barang larangan in college.. but, can bring USB FAN gei.. kaka
laptop no need to bring during haluansiswa la.. u oni allow to go back to ur room, when is sleeping time nia..
so is better to bring after haluansiswa.. =P
must take care urself during haluansiswa ar~ drink more more water.. coz very tiring.. =D

my pointer fulfill the requirement? i know 3.0 is bad result.

Bioinformatic is basically study on DNA/protein sequencing and analyzing (Bio part). You will also learn about programmning, networking, operating system, multimedia, etc.
Future Career:
- lab researcher (hospital, R&D company)
- IT field (admin, technical support, programmer,etc)
- working on DNA/protein sequencing and analyzing in Bioinformatic company
For your information, the average pointer to get Bioinformatic is 3.25. Anyway, this figure is only for reference since every year's pointer for getting a subject is different (depends on the competitiveness of this subject and the pointer of those students who apply this subject).

hi there, i am currently a student of UM bioinformatics.
well, every courses have their own job prospects, so do not worry too much about that.
bioinformatics in UM is still quite a new course if compared with other biology courses.
we will be studying biology courses as well as courses related to computer science.
the average pointer differ every year, so why not give it a try?

I m using 32 bits now and so far i dun face any problem while installing the software needed for our course.
But if u can get 64 bits, why not?
Some of the software now need 64 bits rd. Eg. Adobe After Effect CS5, although u might not need it for our course. Mayb jz for ur other future use.

science faculty is within walking distance frm 1st college... 10 to 20 minutes depends on speed~ not very far >.<
